Find the u-tube manometer on the pipe — a small U of colored liquid. Uneven columns: the fan is pulling and the system lives. Level columns: it’s dead. Check monthly. No gauge at all? Worth fixing in itself.
A level manometer; a fan gone silent, or newly loud (grinding and rattling are bearings failing forward); winter condensation or ice at the pipe; cracked, sun-bleached exterior pipe; a fan mounted inside living space (against standard practice — fans belong in an attic, garage, or outdoors so a pressure-side leak can’t dump radon indoors); or a retest that crept back up.
Radon fans run around the clock and typically last 5–10 years. Replacement is the most common repair and it’s routine for a certified professional — along with resealing sump lids, replacing degraded pipe, and adding suction points an original installer skipped. Kansas’s certification law covers repair work too: ask for the KDHE certification.
