State of Kansas

Kansas Radon Program (KDHE + K-State) — kansasradonprogram.org, hotline (800) 693-5343. The program’s database of tens of thousands of measurements is the source of Kansas’s defining numbers: an average reported residential test of 5.4 pCi/L (KDHE tracking portal), about 1 in 4 homes elevated, and the real-estate finding that roughly a third of sold homes get tested with about 30% of those testing high — mitigated homes averaging a drop from ~9 to ~1.2 pCi/L. KDHE Radon Professionals pages hold the certified measurement and mitigation lists — Kansas requires certification for paid radon work under K.S.A. 48-16a01 et seq., “the radon certification law.”

The Law in Every Contract

The Geology

Kansas Geological Survey — “The Geology of Radon in Kansas” (PIC 25) and geokansas.ku.edu/radon explain the state’s radon sources: above-average uranium in Pennsylvanian and Permian limestone and phosphatic black shale, residual clay soils, the glaciated northeast, and the stack effect that pulls soil gas into buildings.
